This week’s article is in memory of the men and women who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, and to those who have lost their lives while fighting the war from that day. May they be blessed and may G-d watch over their families.

Hey Everyone! I am your friendly Recycling Angel here at Green-4-Kids. Every other week, hopefully, I will be updating this page here on the website with different articles, maybe a short story or two, all about recycling and helping kids. If there is ever anything you wish to see me discuss, or if you have questions for me, you can always email me at therecyclingangel@Green-4-Kids.com .
So, now that my introduction is out of the way, I have a question for you:
Do you know where YOUR trash goes?
If you’re like most people, you probably don’t. But that’s why I’m here, to keep you informed and tell you what really happens to everything that you throw out. So, once a week, maybe twice, you kvetch and complain about having to bring your trash down to the curb so that a big noisy truck can come and take your garbage away for you. But where does it go after that?
Many areas do not have garbage facilities that sort out recyclables from trash (but many do, don’t get me wrong), so all the aluminum, paper, and plastic that you throw out, all winds up in one place with your garbage; it winds up in a landfill. What exactly is a landfill? In simple terms, it’s a big hole in the ground that is dug up and filled with trash, (and a lot of the times, with materials that can usually be recycled), and once it is full, it is covered up and the garbage is left there to decompose. Seems simple, right?
Whoa, are you wrong. Landfills are entirely bad for the environment. The decomposing matter can leak far underground and essentially poison what little pure water is left underground. And we all know, one of the things we need to survive is pure, clean water. Also, people can assume that materials like plastic and aluminum decompose at a rapid rate, but they are sadly, very wrong.
DID YOU KNOW….?
Did you know it takes 80 years for an aluminum can to decompose on its own? Did you know that a tin tuna fish can, takes 100 years to decompose? Did you know that a plastic bottle takes 450 years to decompose? And did you know that Styrofoam never decomposes?
Now, where does Green-4-Kids come in with all of this? Well, we make it easier for you to recycle. So that all that stuff doesn’t wind up in landfills and stay in our environment forever. As we grow, we’ll have a wider range of pickup areas and we’ll take your bottles and cans to be recycled, free of charge. All the money that comes from it will be put into an account to be distributed to various charities for less-fortunate kids. With us making it that simple for you, what’ve you got to lose other than the bottles and cans that would anyways be winding up in the bins in front of your houses? Through Green-4-Kids, you’ll get rid of your recyclables, and you’ll make a difference in the lives of kids around the U.S., and around the world. What’ve you got to lose?
I thank you all for taking the time to read this article, and I hope it has educated you a little bit on what we do here at Green-4-Kids. Remember, it’s easy to sign up if you want to help, and we could always use more volunteers.
Have an amazing and safe week!
