Saving the World One Bag at a Time!!!

The Article For This Week:

This week’s article is dedicated to the people who we’ve lost in the tragic train crash on September 12, 2008….

September 21, 2008

Hello again, everyone! Welcome back! I was actually surprised that no one emailed me with suggestions or comments; I would love to hear what everyone thinks about what is discussed in the article. My e-mail is TheRecyclingAngel@green-4-kids.com

This week I will discuss the subject of Environmental Sustainability & Sustainable Solutions. Now, your first question probably is: what in the world does that mean? Well, let me break it down for you: Environmental means having to do with the environment (I know, rocket science, eh?) and Sustainability means something that is able to be maintained. So, put those two terms together, and you get the concept of how long something in the environment can be contained, and you get a sustainable solution

If I were a bit better with Microsoft Word, I would show this next concept to you visually, but for now, you’ll just have to imagine it in your mind. There are three conditions to reaching complete Environmental Sustainability:

1. Something has to be economically feasible, meaning that it makes sense to the economy.

2. It has to be socially acceptable which means that it’s desirable to people.

3. Whatever it is also has to be environmentally viable, which tells us that it is good for the environment.

These three make up a diagram of sorts, where they are all conjoined in the middle (just imagine a Venn diagram with three circles instead of two) the small area where all three of these conditions meet is known as a sustainable solution, meaning that whatever it is, it will be able to be maintained environment-wise and it will also make you happy in the end.

Let me give you a scenario: imagine you have millions of dollars and you’re looking to buy an awesome car. So, you drive around town, and you finally find the car and you think to yourself, ‘Ah! THIS is the car I want this car NOW!!’ Now what is this car, you may ask? It’s none other than a Hummer H3. Now, we all know that if we’re rich, it’s economically feasible to buy a Hummer H3, and it’s also socially acceptable, but the downside to Hummers is that they go through gas like there’s no tomorrow (and there really wont be if every person had a Hummer). The amount of gas a Hummer goes through, and how far you actually get on a full tank, (A Hummer H3 averages 14 MPG highway and 10 MPG in normal stop-and-go traffic), makes the Hummer H3 not environmentally viable, and not part of a sustainable solution.

So, now let’s put Green-4-Kids into the same diagram: Green-4-kids doesn’t cost you yourself any money, it makes people happy because they don’t have to deal with worrying about dealing with the recyclables each week, and it’s not just good for the environment, it’s amazing! So, all this put into perspective shows that Green-4-Kids is a sustainable solution!

I hope this article was informative, and that everyone who reads it takes away the main message that I’m trying to get across: We, as human beings, want a lot of things that we may not need, and believe it or not, there is a big difference between the two. So if you’re ever debating between buying a Hummer H3 or a Toyota Prius, I hope you remember this article and make the choice that will be essentially a sustainable solution.

Have an Amazing week!

PS: I DO NOT work for either Toyota or Hummer; this is all just an informative article.
